Lee Hoolickin interview

“It’s Just Like The Old Days”

I spoke to new Carlisle City signing and veteran full-back Lee Hoolickin about his return to Saturday football:

“In the summer, I spoke to James and Jonny and asked if I could do pre-season and they said ‘No Problem’. I didn’t think I would be needed as they have a good bunch of young lads down there and they were doing really well.”

“At the start it was mainly for my own fitness and for my own benefit. Now I’m going to training every Thursday and I’m here for cover and taking it one step at a time.”

“I don’t know how long I’ll last though! It’s just more of a case that they need me right now and I’ll happily help out.”

“But, as I’ve been training and now there’s a few injuries, James rang me on Sunday morning asking me to help out after young Aaron Bradbury injured his ankle. And, I was more than happy to-I just want to see how it goes.”

Speaking about returning to playing on Saturday after quite a while out, Lee had this to say:

“It’s good to get back into it. I’ve been training with the lads since the start of the season and I said to James that I would help out whenever they were short. You know, I’m not the youngest anymore and I’ve had a bad knee which I still have a bit of.”

“Obviously, you still get your nerves, but it’s just like the old days, you’ve just got to focus on the game. You do doubt yourself at this age and have the doubts in your own mind whether you can still do it or not.”

“But, you have to give it a go and see how you get on. I’m just going to take everything week-by-week and see how things go.”
