Mathew Read interview

“Playing With My Mates Again Is Great”

I spoke to new signing Matthew Read before our game against St Helens Town on Tuesday night. He gave his thoughts on joining City:

“Down playing with mates again is great. Its another club for me and hopefully I can get a game here. My best position is probably left back, but I can play either centre half or centre midfield.”

“Its easy coming here as you don’t have to do a meet and greet, everyone knows you. I spoke to a few of lads and Tose, they’ve been at me to come down so hopefully we can pick up some points and get up the league.”

“I don’t have a goal target but I’d like to get no yellow cards. I’m not a goalscorer, just get the ball and pass really. Firstly, I want to get some minutes in and help the lads get up the league.”

“Its also a new league for me, don’t know what its like but, we’ll how it is and how everyone else gets on. The northern league was hard work and this will probably be the same, but you need hard-working lads in the team.”

“I was at Gretna and lasted 132 minutes before I decided it wasn’t for me, I then got injured. I play with some of the lads on a Sunday so I wanted to come back down and play with my mates again and enjoy my football.”

“I don’t want to be somewhere I don’t enjoy, I saw through pre-season with Gretna but then the manager left which was a big reason why I went there. Hopefully, I’ll stick it through here.”
