POSTED 6th MARCH 2019

MATCH SUMMARY
City gained their first league win under new manager Jim Nichols last night as a goal from stand-in skipper Darren Addison earned a 1-0 success at Nelson. The goal, in the 11th minute, was probably City’s first attempt as the home side had started brightly and continued to dominate even after going behind. However, City did create chances too and Simpson twice had a shot saved by the home keeper. Shortly before the break, Bradbury broke clear but was unable to force his shot in.
The second half was more even with Nelson struggling to create clear-cut opportunities. City always seemed to have the better chances with an early break by McCartney saved by the keeper. City’s leading scorer had another great chance saved in the 71st minute and Bradbury missed a gilt-edged chance as he blazed over the bar. City gave a debut from the bench to Tom Fagan who has been with Workington Reds this season.
City now entertain Shelley at home on Saturday, ko 3.00 pm.

POSTED 5th MARCH 2019- MATCH PREVIEW

City try for the third time this evening to travel to Nelson for the re-arranged game in the Hallmark Security League division 1 North (ko 7.45 pm). Already twice postponed, this game is probably not certain to go ahead tonight given the prevailing weather conditions.
City are in need of a morale-boosting win after losing to a late own goal on Saturday at home to AFC Blackpool. At the same time, Nelson were losing 5-1 at home to Prestwich Heys, who scored four times in the last 30 minutes, and the home goalkeeper was shown a red card. That was Nelson’s third successive defeat, which followed wins over Shelley and Garstang. Home form has been the problem for Nelson this season with just three wins at home, whilst six victories have been gained on their travels.
Nelson’s leading scorer is Gareth Hill on 13 goals, and he was awarded star man on Saturday, when he was one of four home players to be cautioned.

MATCH PREVIEW
City are at home to AFC Blackpool tomorrow in the Hallmark Security League division 1 North. Both teams are coming off the back of heavy defeats, with City losing 7-0 at Longridge last week whilst Blackpool were crashing 8-2 at home to Lower Breck, in a game where they were eight down after 68 minutes.

Blackpool are currently 13th in the league table, and their away form sees 3 wins and 2 draws from 14 games. Last week’s defeat for Blackpool was their only loss in the last six matches, with three wins and two draws in the games before that. Their leading scorer on 13 goals is Ben Duffield and goalkeeper Alex Cameron has played most games this season, with 32 appearances.

City will be starting their first home league game under new manager Jim Nichols and will be looking for the first league victory since 19th January, when Atherton LR were beaten 3-0.

Admission tomorrow is £4 adults and £2 concessions, with under 16s admitted free. The Little Griddle is here for hot food and drinks.

MATCH PREVIEW
City face a tough task tomorrow in Hallmark Security League division 1 North, as they travel to league leaders Longridge Town (ko 3.00). This will be new manager Jim Nichols’ first league game in charge, and he is well aware of Longridge boss Lee Ashcroft having worked with him at Kendal Town.

City have signed two players this week with Warren Douglas and Sam Atkinson both joining the club. Douglas may be available tomorrow but Atkinson first has to serve a two-match suspension received whilst playing in Scotland. There are still injury doubts over James Earl and Michael Slack, and Peter Allison received a nasty facial injury in the warm-up prior to last Saturday’s game.

Longridge are unbeaten in their last seven games, winning six of them, and they have scored 108 goals in 28 league games this season.

There will be spaces on our coach going to the game, and supporters are welcome to travel with us.
